The Congo Basin Rainforest is one of the world's most threatened ecosystem. Many endangered chimpanzees, along with other species, live in the Congo Basin Rainforest located in central Africa. What makes the Congo Rainforest the most endangered ecosystem in the world? The human damage and destruction to the land. Commercial logging and the expansion of farming, agriculture, has destroyed many parts of the rainforest, and displaced many forest dwellers also. Ever since the 1980's, Africa has had the highest deforestation rates. Another human impact on the Congo Rainforest is mining. Mining damages the rainforest environment, much of the area is cleared up to build roads to access to mines and machinery compacts the soil and water courses are damaged. Humans put the chimpanzee, and other species living in this ecosystem, endangered. They are threatening them by hunting and habitat destruction. Commercial hunting and deforestation threatens the Congo Basin Rainforest in general. Humans will eventually start building factories in these are that are being deforested, and the factories will cause air pollution, and water pollution. This will contaminate the air that organisms breath in and cause them to start getting sick and dying off, and the water will no longer be drinkable and all the fishes living in rivers will eventually die as well. This makes the environment an unhealthy and not safe for animals to live. All the species living in the Congo Basin Rainforest and River will become endangered and extinct, they will die and have no where to migrate to. Since humans are deforesting the rainforest all the species living in this environment will no longer have a home and will not have food nor water to eat and drink. The trees where they get their food from will be cut and use for logging, leaving the animals to have nothing to eat. The pesticide use will no longer give animals what to eat, it will lower the amount of food they can eat and will not have anything to eat. Human being do all this damage to the land, they do not care the harm they are doing to the environment, animals, plants and even people living in the Congo. "The Congo Basin rainforest plays a critical role in regulating the global climate and halting runaway climate change, for the benefit of the entire biosphere." (Greenpeace International). Businessmen and the government exploit this land and the people for their own wealth. This is why deforestation, logging, mining and agriculture occurs in this ecosystem, for wealth.
